But serious, no, that’s ridiculous. Why would heat directly on a body part make you burn fat? Fat is an energy storage device, you only burn fat when your body needs energy from movement.

By getting hot and sweaty and raising your heart rate levels, you will start to burn fat.

Sad to say… Loosing love handles and “quick” isnt really an attanable goal. The midsection is the last place the body looks for fat, it’s also the first place it’s deposited. That said, you need to do full body cardio workouts to get the heart pumping, and sweat running. Couple this with core exersizes, and you’ll start to burn the fat.

Everyone has abs. Some people have very strong abs. The problem is that layer of fat on top of them that’s hiding them.

Toning exersize shapes and strengthens muscle. Cardio (running, jumping, etc) pumps the blood…distributing energy. When your ready-energy is at a certain low-point, that’s when the fat deposits are accessed, and not before. This is why cardio alone doesnt work, nor crunches alone doesnt work. You need both.

Jogging is an excellent exercise because it let you lose weight
evenly throughout your whole body. If you want to lose weight in
specific areas, you should target them with exercises. If they are
your problem areas, they will be very difficult to tone. You will have
to work double on them. The best approach is this:
1. Lower/control your daily calorie intake (control for normal
weight, lower for overweight).
2. Run/jog to lower your overall body fat percentage.
3. Target your problem areas with exercises.
An excellent exercise you can do it at home in front of your TV:
Attach a couple of ankle weights to your ankles.
Lay down on the floor or any other hard
surface. Use an exercise rug so as not to bruise your spine off the
floor. Put your hands behind your head, or spread them wide. Lift
your legs perpendicular to the floor, stop for a second. Lower the
legs down. Repeat ten times, stop. Turn on your stomach, raise on
your hands, with the lower part of the body on the floor, as if
trying to look at the ceiling. Turn back, do another set. Do three
sets with ten repetitions every day. In a week, you should see the
results. Once you are used to the exercise, and your muscles won’t
get stronger anymore, add weight to your ankle weights. Remember:
repeating the same easy exercise many times won’t help. Do it only
with the weights. Simple leg raises do not work. Use weights,
they do wonders. Stretch your spine between repetitions. Be careful
not to go for too heavy weight at once. Do not increase the weights
continuously, stop when your abs are defined – too heavy weights
will lead to injuries.

Yes, it is absolutely possible to lose fat and build muscle with P90X. Lower abs is the hardest area to work and define. You’ll have to work the program from both a physical and a nutritional standpoint to see the best results. In other words, it’s not enough to just workout, you have to eat clean to get those abs to show.

How do I go from a 12.5 % body fat, to a 9% so i could see my abdominal muscles?

I could only see them a little bit when i flex my stomach in the mirror, but i can tell i have potential to see them without flexing if i knew what types of exercise ect. that i should be doing. I also hate junk foods including fast food and will only eat home cooked meals.

It is great that you eat healthy, and only like home-cooked meals. Everyone has a six-pack, some people just have fat covering it. To see the six-pack you must do cardio.

To better strengthen and define your six-pack you should do crunches. You shouldn’t do crunches two days in a row though, you must give your muscles time to recover. You should increase the amount of crunches you do as you go along.

Make sure to avoid processed foods as well, and drink 8 cups of water a day, as well as 3 cups of skim milk. Skim milk has shown in studies to reduce fat, as well as strengthening the bones.

Make sure you eat lean meats, not fried. Carbohydrates should be complex (such as wheat bread, brown rice), not simple (such as white rice).

Of course, in addition to this you need cardio to see results. I highly recommend the cardio HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) for maximum results.

HIIT does not burn muscle, while it burns fat 9 times as effectively as any other cardio exercise, and you only have to do it for 15-20 minutes every other day.

Any cardio exercise will work, such as jogging, tennis, running, brisk-walking, etc. However, these often require much more time, and you may lose a bit of muscle, which is why HIIT beats them in every way.

I really don’t know why someone said that you need 14%-20% body fat. As long as body fat isn’t going below 4%-5% you are fine, providing you are eating normally, and not starving yourself.

Basically, I am an 18 year old male and lately it seems as though my metabolism has slowed down as my stomach has.. expanded shall we say. It’s the only part of my body that seems to have been affected as looking at me you’d assume I was as skinny as anything. So basically what I was wondering is are there are exercises I can do from home that are effective on the abdominal region. I thought push ups and sit ups but I can’t even do one of either which is horrendous.

So any advice is appreciated.

Basicly you could start by trying smaller meals and go for a hesalthier option while at the same time do sit ups and push ups like you said in your question and i know you may not like this idea but you could always try yoga its known for toning muscles and slimming the tummy and waist.

How do I lose wieght targetting an area? I know that when you exercise, most likely it effects all areas, but such exercises like crunches for abdominal is targetting the abdominal section. You can’t actually target an area at all, that has been proven wrong. Your body burns fat evenly from all parts of your body. A lot of cardio will help.

Hello, when I began my weight loss two years ago, i never thought I would start from 201 pounds and go down to 120. I was on a low carb/high protein diet (even though i dont like to call it a diet since it’s become part of my daily life to eat that way) Anyway I work out 6 times a week. Cardio for 30 and weight training for an hour or less. In the begining of my journey i was only doing cardio and nothing else. I love my body and I love the way everything came together and even though every part of my body looks nice and chiseled, one side of my stomach (where i guess there were tons of fat cells and have now died) is sagging. I do yoga, various abdominal exercised, pilates, and im starting to notice my abs are forming beautifully but bottom right side is just extremely loose! I need help, I don’t want surgery because if i lose 80 pounds without it then i can do this without it. I’m looking for cream/oil/pill/home remedy; anything non surgical to help. I greatly appreciate the time you all took to read this and I hope someone can truely help!

deadlifts….overhead squats….front squats..pushups
are great for building abs as they force your abs to support your body…and are actually far more efficient than say crunches…and remember to go heavy to challenge your muscles…dont worry about ‘bulking up’ I’ve worked with 110 pound girls that could deadlift upwards of 300 pounds and they werre by no means bulky….odds are YOU DONT have enough testosterone to become bulky

Pushups and situps are not enough. They build up the muscles but you need to do cardio and burn FAT to see those muscles.. Meaning running, biking, treadmill, elyptical etc. And you better be doing atleast 200 situps 100 pushups a day in sets of 20-50 whatever you can handle. And forget this concept of “fast” it does not work like that you need to commit and workout

Depends on your body, shape, condition etc. I do crunches every day for lets say two weeks and i get abs instantly, but i am also very thin. If you exercise daily it should take a more than a month depending on your weight and height. These are proved to be best ab exercises:

SIDE CRUNCH- You perform the side crunch in very much the same manner as you would the front crunch only this time you’re going to crunch towards the side rather than up directly to the front.
In doing so you’ll help hit the obliques, which is the muscle that runs along the side of the body. Perform 10 reps in each direction, completing two sets total per side.

V CRUNCH- Using a chair, sit on the edge of the seat with your arms straight down to the side and holding the sit. Keeping the back straight, lean the body back so it is at a 45 degree angle (like the first line of a ‘V’) .Then contract the abdomen muscles and lift the legs up toward the chest to make the knees form the second line of the V. This abs exercise works the lower abs. Keep your back straight with no arching of your lower back when lifting the legs.

LEG LIFTS- Another good abs exercise to work the lower abs is to lie flat on the floor with your legs straight, hands to your sides or under your buttocks and lift your legs about 6 – 10 inches off the floor and hold for a few seconds. Hold the position for as long as you can without straining your neck or arching your lower spine. Repeat as many times as you can. While performing the exercises keep your abdominal muscles contracted and your lower back flat on the floor.

How can i get abs fast?

Well i know how to get abs but my real question is….How does a person prevent themselves from getting a “gut 6 pack”. Thats the only way to describe it. When a persons stomach still bulges out but in 6 pack form. I’ve heard it has to do with no sucking in your stomach when you do abworkouts. I’ve also heard it is caused by doing ab workouts using heavy weights?

Getting abs requires a lot of hard work. There is no such thing as getting them fast. Those stupid TV gimmicks don’t work.

Exercising daily (focus on ab exercises and at least 1 hour of cardio a day to get shredded abs) and eat properly (you need 1.5 -2g of protein per lb of body weight every day to help w/ muscle growth.) Drink at least 1 gallon of water a day. Cut out the junk food. Eat 5 meals a day, much smaller portions every 2-3 hours.

well,i’ve been on this routine for more than 3 months.
everyday except sunday, i do all the different crunches, and i stop when i reach muscle failure……my abs are so hard,but they are not visible!!!

You can see that this is true by visiting a public pool in the summer, where you will see the occasional very young boy with visible abs. Their abs are visible not because of exercise or testosterone, but rather through a combination of low body fat and good genes.

If you are like most people, you will need to do a little work for your abs to show. In adults, abs will start to become visible when you get below 12% body fat. Typically, you will need to be at 10% or less in order for your abs to stand out under normal, ambient lighting conditions.

It’s nearly impossible to gain muscle and burn fat at the same time. If you are doing total body workouts where you lift heavy weights and do squats or dead lifts, then that’s a different story. It is much more effective to build muscle and lose fat in two different stages. In other words, I like to build muscle during the winter months (heavier weights, total body workouts, lots of protein intake, more carbs etc.). Then, in the summer months, I slim down and do more cardio, lighter weights, and calm down with the protein and carbs because you need less energy for this kind of excersize.

You should eat soups, salads, cereals, fruits, vegetables, beans and nuts. Drink skim milk, diet sodas and 100% whole wheat bread only-nothing enriched-this is what causes love handles. Stay away from fast food. Lean meat helpings should be the size of a deck of cards. Carbohydrates consist of breads, pastas and potatoes, primarily. Stay away from cured, smoked or processed meats. Eat baked snacks. Drink vegetable or fruit juice daily.

Eating healthy will help too. Avoid junk foods (pop, candy, cookies, desserts, potatoe chips, etc). Eat lots of fruit and veggies and drink lots of water. Make sure you eat breakfast, because it helps you burn calories during the day. And only eat when you’re hungry, and if you have to snack, eat something healthy like nuts, fruit/veggies, yogurt, etc.

Some sort of cardiovascular activity is good for you too, like running, biking, rollerblading, or swimming. I’m a runner and running has helped me build up ab muscle. And pushups work your core too, so add those to your work out.

I’m 16 and I want to get some 6 pack. The thing is that all my other parts are pretty in good shape(muscular) except my abs which is covered with a good chunk layer of fat so whenever i run the belly dances around all day. So I want to reduce my intake of calory (resist craving of starchy food) and do daily cardio a lot but the problem is that I kno w i’m still growing so limiting my diet will not be good. Lose weight, do ab work. Run a lot to lose weight, do core exercises like sit ups, etc to build muscle. Your muscle won’t come out if you’re fat. Laugh a lot, it flexes your abs.

Try beginners Pilate’s. They usually have different positions depending on a certain body pain (i.e knees, back..)

also, if your looking to slim down your midsection, try staying away from foods that are high in sodium, as it tends to retain water. That said, drinking a lot of water helps flush out any excess sodium and leaves you feeling lighter too.

Also, don’t forget to up your cardio and lift some weights for total body conditioning!

Simple answer…any bicep or tricep machine works your arms. Squat rack, leg press, leg extension, calf machine, inner/outer thigh machines, and hamstring curls are good for legs. Ab machines, cardio, and good eating (along with the other stuff) will help tone your stomach.
Also, remember to check your body fat as well. Your body fat% is a much better judge of if you’re carrying excess fat (and how much). You might be able to drop 20 lbs and if you’re toned up, have a nice (and healthy) body or drop 30 and not look so good. Get your body fat checked (any good gym or doctor) and work with a trainer to set a realistic fat yet aggressive % loss to lose over your desired time period.

Here is what I would suggest:
I’d recommend eating at least ~1500 calories/day and break this up into ~6 small meals/day (i.e. A whey protein shake would count as one of these meals). This will speed up your metabolism as your body never needs to go into starvation mode.
To turn your body into a lean, mean, fat burning machine you want a combo of good cardio and resistance training, good eating (lots of lean protein, fruits, and veggies), and a thermogenic fat burner.

> excercise: resistance training mixed with cardio. Wake up early and do your cardio in the morning (will help your metabolism esp. On an empty stomach). Do your lifting/resistance training in the evenings). As you add muscle you will burn more fat (throughout the day). You can do abs almost every day. Use the ab balls as much as possible (they work your core in every exercise). Make sure you work your legs (thighs, calves, and buns) and your triceps (back of your arms) and back especially. Short on time…just mix it up from day to day. I would suggest light weights or bands and very high reps 15-20 depending on the excercise
- Improve your nutrition to mostly eat low fat protein (chicken, fish, lean ground turkey, etc.) and veggies (i.e. Broccoli, carrots, leafy greens). Mix a little fruit in there for some sweetness. You can also try whey protein shakes (whey protein, ice, skim milk, little peanut butter, and ripe banana, more ice). Put in a blender and it tastes great. For snack/dessert try the Odwalla bars (choco chip ones taste great). For breakfast you could have lean turkey sausage or whey protein shake (mentioned above). For lunch have a grilled chicken breast (can put salsa on top for flavor) or something similar. For dinner you can have grilled/baked fish or chicken or lean turkey (burgers or ground). For inbetweens try beef jerky, fruit, veggies, peanuts, protein bars or shakes. Try to eat ~6 small ‘meals’ or decent sized ‘snacks’ day (speeds up your metabolism).
- Start taking a thermogenic fat burner (will burn fat faster when your body temp rises – i.e. Working out), ripped fuel, or hydroxycut hardcore. Take before your workouts (will provide energy) and other times as directed. Don’t exceed the daily dose. These will help provide energy not only for your workout but also to help you get through the day while on your ‘cutting’ diet.
- play high speed sports (soccer, basketball, speed skating, even dancing – as long as its fast moving and non-stop).
- Lower abs exercises. Do a lot of these using the ab ball: put your feet on the ball and your hands on the ground (like you’re about to do a pushup). Use your ab muscles to pull the ball (and your feet) towards your midsection, go back out. Next do some leg raises (can do them on an incline bench and after each set pull it slightly up until flat). Next do some leg lifts, six inches, or something similar.

I work out daily and have put on a stone in a month using protein shakes and a reasonably healthy diet. I have put on muscle mass but can notice a slight increase in fat around the bottom of my stomach and my face. I want to get rid of the fat but maintain the muscle mass, or even increase it! What sort of diet and what specific types of training should i be doing and for how long each day?

You cannot grow muscle with zero fat, but you can try to minimise fat gain, and you must eat extra energy to grow muscle because gaining weight only happens when you eat more, just as losing weight only happens when you eat less. Food, is like a drug, and just like babies that eat regularly in the day to grow fast, you need to be eating more to grow. You do not need to eat much more than usual, but it should be enough that you gain 1-2lbs every week or 2weeks. That means eating more than you need to stay the same weight by 1750-3500cals per week, or 250-500cals per day extra. If you gain too slow/too fast you then add 250-500 more/take 250-500cals away per week, or 35-70cals per day. The choice is yours about how much muscle you want, because if you work out hard and get good sleep for recovery, eating only a little will slow your growth, eating more will boost it to the maximum rate. The faster you gain muscle, the more you will also gain fat, the slower you gain muscle, the less fat you gain, so it is upto you if you want to get big fast and then diet off the fat later, for a month or so. If you gain about 1lb a week or 2weeks, that is reasonable, and there shouldn’t be too much fat. Think of growing muscle like looking after a new baby plant. It needs food, water and to rest at night to grow. Good foods are for energy: brown bread/rice/pasta, potatoes,cereal,nuts,fruit. For health:fruit,veg,beans,oily fish. Make sure you eat at least 1g animal protein per lb of your bodyweight, if you weigh 100lbs, get at least 100g protein a day from animal produce like: lean meat,chicken,other birds,fish,eggs,milk. Make sure you drink at least 2litres water a day.

Actually according to your BMI you are perfectly in the normal weight limit for your age and weight. But if you are interested in shedding a few pounds I recommend one, eat right. Stay away from processed foods such as anything that cant be grown in the ground (chips, cookies, twinkies, soda ice cream etc.) Don’t eat at fast food places either. Also, don’t worry about it too much. If you have not hit puberty yet, your metabolism will increase if you take care of your body the right way. Also go outside and get moving. Play with friends! Don’t stay inside. Wii fit does not count. Just stay positive!!!

Belly fat it hard to get rid of. Best advice, don’t fight fat with fat. If you want to loose it, ditch the bad foods and reach for the good ones. A healthy diet is the best option for a person your age. But if you are adamant about doing crunches start with a base number like 50. Do 25 wait 20 seconds then do the other 25. Do that each day for a week then add more on the next week. It will take awhile, like I said, belly fat is very hard to loose but if you have a good attitude and work hard you will see results and a positive change in your day-to-day life!!!

I definatly see this in the African american race. And don’t act like you don’t think that this is true, but that’s beside the point. Men need to chill out. You always blame the women. It doesn’t take one person to have a child. If you know that you’re not ready emotionally and financially ready, then use a condom! There’s so many kids without fathers and so many mothers put to expense because the father is nowhere to be found. This sometimes makes the kids grow up to be absent fathers or girls turn to the wrong boys for male love. It’s a cycle and it needs to be stopped. Well, it depends on the girl. In your case, it could be. That’s something you need to figure out yourself or with your counselor. But the father in a girls life is proven to affect the way that a woman perceives love. I, personally have had a problem with being somewhat of a gold digger, because my dad never saw me and he only sent me nice presents since i was a little girl. Therefore, i see expensive gifts as love. I don’t know how your story plays out, but if you suspect that your lack of a father figure is affecting your life, than you should see a therapist and get help to get over it.

Any sort of aerobic exercise is good. Even walking with the baby in the stroller. As far as the uncomfortable seat, it depends on the manufacturer of the bike on the comfort factor. You can also buy padded bicycle shorts which help quite a bit also.

They best type of swimming is constant motion. You have to get you heart rate and keep it up to burn fat. Do whatever is your best stroke for at least 20 minutes to start burning fat. Aqua aerobics are wonderful also. As far as toning. Breast stroke is a great workout it target a lot of muscle groups. More than freestyle and backstroke and its a lot easier than butterfly. Breast stroke is an easy stroke to learn, (not easy to master) but once learned you can keep it up for a while.

Everyone has abs, most people’s are covered in fat, so diet is the most important thing. When exercising, most people lose fat in the stomach area last. So you have to lose it everywhere else first. If that is the case with you, you may have to have a 5=10% body fat to do that. Eat lots of veggies and lean meats to accomplish this. Cardio work and ab workouts can supplement this.

Hello,

Let me just begin by saying, you are working out too much on push ups and your abs. I suggest putting push ups into your chest workout, if you did a good job on your chest, and your doing push ups the next day, you are overworking your chest. Wait for about 1- 2 days before doing push ups again, allowing your body to heal without wearing your chest out.

The same goes for your abs, if you do a good workout with your abs, it shouldn’t be done the days that follow. Its unnecessary overworking the muscles, constantly tearing them and not giving them enough time to heal.

Also, maybe you could take out some of the cardio and replace it with leg workouts. One day a week isn’t sufficient enough for your legs. They make up more than half of your overall muscle power, and if you dont work it in proportion to the rest of your body, it will prevent you from making better gains.

Also, don’t forget to switch up your routines, so that your muscles never get used to the same thing over and over.

Mario, since you said you were originally from Egypt, and came to the US about 5 years ago, I would say what a doctor told my son in law…DON’T EAT THE FOOD!!! Our American diet is horrible! Too much fat, too much sugar, too many empty calories and not enough good healthy vegetables. What kind of diet did you eat when you were in Egypt? What did you change? At 13 your metabolism is optimal! You should be burning fat as fast as a plant drinks water. But if you have drastically changed your eating and activities since coming here, then you need to go back to the way you were in Egypt.

I wish you luck. Do not do fad dieting. Omitting any of the food groups your body needs will ultimately slow your metabolism to a snail pace. I know that one for a fact. I was an aerobics instructor for years and stayed very fit and healthy. Two major surgeries later and I can’t lose the excess weight I packed on. It is very hard to get off of a Western diet. You will certainly have to use will power to achieve your goal but I know you can do it.

MEN: Are stretch marks a turn off if a girl is NOT fat?

I’m currently in the process of losing 90lbs (lost 5lbs so far). I obviously have a ton of stretch marks (stomach, back, shoulders, hips, thighs, arms etc). A lot of them are faded to being almost unnoticeable, but some are fairly thick, red and “gross” looking. For example, I have some that go from my hips, all the way up the sides of my back to under my arms. They also go across my lower back.

After I get to a healthy weight, I am worried that men will be totally grossed out by my stretch marks.

Everyone has stretch marks, even skinny people. Some people’s are just worse than others. I’ve been with guys who have them too. I think it’s one of those things where the person that has them gets all freaked out about it, but the person they’re with doesn’t really notice and if they do, they don’t care….they’ll just be glad they get to see you naked ;) And if someone does care about them, I’d say that gives you a pretty good indication about what they’re looking for…if they’re really into you, they aren’t going to care at all…if they’re superficial or just looking for a hookup, then they might care, but would you want to be with someone like that anyways?

I have a few stretch marks, but they’re not too bad, just the whitish ones, not the purple ones, but I will admit that I have a weird tummy…it’s not huge, but I have the little pouchy thing going on that i used to be extremely self conscious about. It came up one day with the guy that I was with at the time and he confessed that he thought it was adorable and loves it…that really surprised me, but my point is that we worry about our own imperfections too much when really it doesn’t even matter to other people.
